Sigma show in Malta has become the biggest and probably most important show of the online part of the gaming industry. It is a young event that started in 2013 but truly became recognized and accepted in 2017. Last year was big and this year even bigger with more than 400 exhibitors and 15.000 participants coming from 80+ countries. Oryx had its own booth for the second consecutive year and was represented by a team of 16 people including representatives from BRAGG gaming.
Sigma has some very unique characteristics. The first one is being a B2B show. While ICE London and G2E Vegas are industry’s big show-offs, Sigma is more about everybody getting together in one place – big tent – to be close and available to discuss open issues, existing business and potential to expand it. It is a very active show on all corporate levels – CEO’s and junior account managers are running to and from meetings – and a lot of real work gets done.
The second important characteristic is its focus on the future. While the online segment of the gaming industry is the most progressive one, Sigma goes one step further and puts special focus on new technologies – namely the blockchain – and its real-world application within gaming. There is no other show where more blockchain casinos, solutions and products are shown or presented. This is also true due to a special opportunity offered to 100 startups which can have a stand and present themselves on the show floor for free.
And the third characteristic is being global. Malta has become a truly global hub not only for operations running in various .com markets but also for those operating in regulated local jurisdictions. As such Sigma became the place where distributors and providers from all over the world – especially Asia – come to build bridges between some of the biggest online markets and opportunities.
Sigma 2019 was a very successful show for Oryx. With more than 120 scheduled meetings and quite a few unscheduled ones, we got together with all our business partners: online and land-based operators, content developers, distributors and of course our game providers. Gamomat team was present on the booth for all three days. Demos of Q1 games were done and new features discussed. Some of the very exciting new products were sneak peeked and got amazing and valuable feedback. The focus was to strengthen existing relationships, boost performance and create a solid foundation for future growth.
With all the hard work we had a lot of fun too. We held an evening event on board of the Black Pearl, an antique pirate ship, where food and drinks were enjoyed while discussion steered away from pure business. We definitely showed our other good side, too!
Oryx and the group is noticeably increasing its presence across the industry and with set plans the numbers will only grow. This year’s expo was a great step towards those goals!
